Luz "Lucy" Luevanos Mervich, 81, of Port Huron Township, passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, January 24, 2017, surrounded by her family, after a long illness with Alzheimer's disease.

She was born April 1, 1935 in Detroit to the late Wenceslao and Juana Luevanos. She married Lawrence A. Mervich Sr. on January 3, 1959, in St. Anne de Detroit Church, Detroit.

Luz graduated from Ste. Anne's Catholic High School in 1954, where she was a cheerleader. She was a very active member of St. Anne de Detroit Catholic Church.

She enjoyed family gatherings at Metro Beach and spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Lawrence A. Mervich Sr.; her four sons, Mike (Kathy) Mervich, Lawrence A. (Mary) Mervich II, Thomas (Cindy) Mervich, all of Port Huron and Robert (Hollie) Mervich of Matthew, North Carolina; her nine grandchildren, Cheryl Mervich, Denver, Colorado, Michael Mervich of Chicago, Illinois, Katy (Kaleb) Mormann of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Amanda Mervich, Joseph Mervich and Bradley Mervich, all of Port Huron, and Ian, Allisun and Claire Mervich of Matthews, North Carolina; great grandchild, August Mormann of Colorado Springs, Colorado; three siblings, Carmen (Frank) Alvira, Joe Luevanos and Pete (Mary) Luevanos; sister-in-law, Susan Murvich; brothers-in-law, Dan Mervich and Ray Lopez; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Michael Luevanos and John Luevanos; two sisters, Santos Luevanos and Mary Lopez; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Michael and Emily Murvich; and sister-in-law, Colleen Mervich.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home, 1720 Elk Street at Pine Grove Avenue, Port Huron. A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday evening in the funeral home.

Mrs. Mervich will lie in state at St. Anne de Detroit Church, 1000 Sainte Anne Street, Detroit on Monday, January 30, 2017, from 9 a.m. until the Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Monsignor Charles Kosanke will officiate.

Burial will be in Our Lady of Hope Catholic Cemetery, Brownstown Township, Michigan.

Memorials may be made to St. Anne de Detroit Church.

The family would like to give a special thank you to her great caregivers, Barbara and Dawn Sullivan and the Grace Hospice staff.
