Lester Joseph Turk, 96, formerly of Port Huron, passed away suddenly and peacefully on Friday, January 6, 2017.

He was born November 16, 1920, in Detroit, to the late Floyd L. and Elizabeth C. Miller Turk. With his passing, Lester is now reunited with the love of his life, Janet Mae Cannan Turk, whom he married on April 14, 1951, in Angola, Indiana.

In spite of becoming blind at the age of twelve, following an eye injury, Lester went on to become an accomplished musician and a member of the local musicians' union. In addition, he was a member of the Masons.

Lester was an adventuresome man. Married and with three children to support, he and his family moved to Davenport, Iowa, where he attended Palmer College of Chiropractic. He returned to Port Huron and was a successful chiropractor for nearly 30 years.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Dr./Captain Raymond J. Turk, USN, Ret. and Yuko Horisawa Turk of Fleming Island, Florida, his son and daughter-in-law, Randy C. Turk and Jutta Heuser Turk of Port Huron, his son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Jefferey L. Turk and Paulette Neal-Allen of Thornton, Colorado and his son, Stacey Paul Turk of Lansing; his brother, Roy (Therese) Turk of Lexington; 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Mae Canaan Turk; his two sisters, Gertrude Turk Konen and Florence Turk VanDyke Kelly; and his brother, Francis Turk.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2017, in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home, with visitation from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service. His son, the Reverend Jefferey L. Turk, will officiate.

Interment will be in Grant Township Cemetery, Big Rapids, Michigan, at a later date.

Memorials may be made in Lester's honor to one's favorite food bank.
