Leonard Lee Brookins Jr., 57, of Port Huron, died Saturday, July 7, 2018 as the result of a motorcycle accident.

He was born March 3, 1961 in Port Huron to Carol and the late Leonard Brookins. He married Denise M. Coats on October 28, 2006 in St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Leonard was a 1979 graduate of Port Huron High School. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Kiska. He was employed for the U.S. Postal Service and was formerly employed at Mapal. Leonard was a member of Holy Trinity Parish and the Knights of Columbus Councils 521 and 2521. He loved to golf, ride his motorcycle and spend time with his family and friends, especially his granddaughter.

He is survived by his wife, Denise; daughter, Nicole Brookins (fianc, Mike Cribbs); granddaughter, Lilliana Pryor; mother, Carol Napier; brothers, Dale and Jeff Brookins; sister, Debbie Napier-Peel; sisters-in-law, Pam Patterson, Linda Coats, Debbie (Robert) D'Alessandro, Cindy (Don) Isaac and Sandy (Ron) Cook; brother-in-law, Jeff (Trina) Coats; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins, including his special uncle and aunt, Jim and Ellen Brookins. He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Brookins Sr.; mother-in-law, Pat Coats; and sister-in-law, Karen Coats.

Visitation will be from 2-9 pm Thursday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm.

Leonard will lie in state from 10:00 am until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 am on Friday, July 13, 2018 in Holy Trinity Parish St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Very Reverend Salvatore Palazzolo KHS and the Reverend Brian Cokonougher will officiate.

Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Knights of Columbus Council 521.
