Ernest Joseph Mauer, 90, of Port Huron, died Saturday, December 30, 2017.

He was born December 9, 1927 in Ubly, Michigan, to the late Henry and Anna Maurer. He married Irene K. Horitski in 1956 in Bad Axe.

He retired from C&O Railroad and was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church.

Ernest enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Irene; two children, Cynthia (Ken) Reinke and Dennis Obee; two grandchildren, Lori Rinke and Steven Obee; and his sister, Bertha Kosal. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Paul, Ralph, Charlie, Jerome and George Maurer; three sisters, Agnes Capling, Stella Fisher and Celestine Osentoski

Funeral services will 3 p.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2018 in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home with visitation from 12 p.m. until the time of service. Deacon Tim Maxwell will officiate.

Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery, Port Austin.
